American Fiction is a comedy film released in 2023 on MGM+ and other streaming platforms. The story follows Jeffrey Wright as Thelonious "Monk" Ellison, a frustrated novelist who, disillusioned with the establishment's exploitation of tired and offensive racial stereotypes in entertainment, writes a satirical "Black" book under a pen name and is unexpectedly swept up in the madness he intended to criticize. The film is an adaptation of Percival Everett's novel "Erasure" and marks the directorial debut of journalist-turned-TV writer Cord Jefferson.
