To take a screenshot on a Mac, you can use one of the following methods:
Method 1: Capture a screenshot of the entire screen
Press Shift + Command + 3
to capture a screenshot of your entire screen. A small thumbnail preview will appear in the bottom-right corner of your screen, which you can click to edit the screenshot.
Method 2: Capture a specific section or window
Press Shift + Command + 4
to turn your mouse cursor into a crosshair. Click and drag this crosshair to select an area of your screen. Everything in the highlighted box will be screenshotted. You can also press other keys to unlock more options:
- Press
Shift + Command + 4
and then hit the spacebar to capture a specific window. - Press and hold the spacebar after dragging the crosshair to lock in the shape and size of the selection area.
- Press and hold the Shift key after dragging the crosshair to adjust the height and width of the box.
Method 3: Use the screenshot menu
Press Shift + Command + 5
to open the Screenshot app. A small menu panel will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can select how you want to take a screenshot by clicking on one of the options on the left, and then click the "Capture" button to take the screenshot.
You can also use the advanced screenshot menu to take videos of your screen by clicking on the two icons to the right of the screenshot options.
Note: If you bought or updated your Mac in 2018 or later, you will have access to the advanced screenshot menu, which lets you take videos of your screen as well.
