BBC iPlayer is a television and radio streaming service from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). It is available on a wide range of devices, including mobile phones, tablets, personal computers, and smart televisions. The service is available in English and several other languages, including Catalan, Cymraeg, Ελληνικά, Français, 한국어, Bahasa Indonesia, Italiano, മലയാളം, Bahasa Melayu, Nederlands, 日本語, Norsk bokmål, Polski, Português, Simple English, Svenska, Zazaki, and 中文. To use the service, users require a valid TV licence and a BBC account. The BBC iPlayer homepage can be accessed at www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer. The service offers catch-up TV and radio, as well as live streaming of major events. In 2015, the BBC began moving towards playing audio and video content via open standards in web browsers rather than via Flash or its Media Player mobile app. In 2018, the BBC iPlayer Radio brand was replaced with BBC Sounds. In 2019, the BBC improved the format quality, taking the highest available on iPlayer to full HD. In 2021, the BBC announced that BBC iPlayer would be rebranded as "iPLAYER". Some programs can be watched in UHD on iPlayer as part of an ongoing trial, as well as streaming major live events in 4K on iPlayer. [1] [2]
